Six days connect the western Simien camps with Ambiko and a Ras Dashen attempt. The route returns through Chiro Leba, making this a longer, more remote trek than the shorter escarpment routes.

Day-by-day itinerary
A proposed sequence for discussion. Daily access, services and travel arrangements need confirmation.
1
Day 1
The first approach
Travel from Gondar towards Michibiny and begin the walking section to Sankaber. This first camp establishes the starting point for the successive ridge crossings rather than beginning immediately with a summit day.

Day 2
Sankaber to Gich
Walk towards Gich through the escarpment landscape, including the Jinbar Falls viewpoint. Highland grassland and heather form part of the route; wildlife should be observed at a distance if encountered.

Day 3
Imet Gogo and Chenek
The trail links Imet Gogo and Inatye before reaching Chenek. Discuss the day's climbs, descents and exposure with the operator; a named viewpoint does not establish a universally suitable walking route.

Day 4
Across the Mesheha valley
Cross the Bwahit area and descend into the Mesheha valley before reaching Ambiko. The combination of high pass and valley descent makes this a different undertaking from the earlier ridge stages.

Day 5
Ras Dashen attempt
Ambiko is the starting and finishing point for the Ras Dashen excursion in this six-day version. Assess summit conditions, fitness and altitude response before proceeding; reaching the summit is not an operational promise.
Leave Ambiko on foot towards Chiro Leba, where the walking itinerary joins the onward route to Gondar. Confirm the final transfer when arranging the journey.
