Four Days Camping in the Simien Mountains

Four days lead through Debark and the Simien camps of Sankaber, Gich and Chenek, finishing with a Mount Bwahit excursion.

Overview

The four-day outline follows the camping sequence through Sankaber, Gich and Chenek. If that pattern does not suit your party, compare it with a shorter camping route or a journey using lodge-based day walks. Simien Lodge and Limalimo Lodge are separate accommodation research options. Changing the overnight pattern requires a revised route and confirmed stays; these alternatives are not additional activities within the four existing days.

Day-by-day itinerary

A proposed sequence for discussion. Daily access, services and travel arrangements need confirmation.

Day 1

Debark to Sankaber

Approach through Debark before walking the final section to Sankaber. The first stage introduces the escarpment and the multi-day walking route; equipment, guiding and camping arrangements need operator approval.

Day 2

Across to Gich

The second day follows the ridge towards Gich, with Genbar Falls as a named viewpoint. Pause for observation where appropriate, keeping distance from cliff edges and any wildlife encountered.

Day 3

Imet Gogo and Inatye

Continue via Imet Gogo and Inatye before reaching Chenek. These are successive parts of the same walking day, so the route should be assessed as a whole rather than as isolated short viewpoints.
