Overview

This outline starts and finishes in Addis Ababa over 21 days. Overnight locations, daily travel times and any walking demands are not yet confirmed; the day-by-day itinerary below shows the proposed sequence.

Day-by-day itinerary

A proposed sequence for discussion. Daily access, services and travel arrangements need confirmation.

Day 1

Addis Ababa start

Begin in Addis Ababa with time among museums, markets or neighbourhoods. Choose a comfortable introduction around your arrival rather than attempting every city interest in one day.

Day 2

Debre Libanos to Debre Markos

Head north through Debre Libanos Monastery towards Debre Markos. Confirm access to the religious site and the current route before arranging the day.

Day 3

Continue to Bahir Dar and the Blue Nile Falls area. The walking approach and viewpoints depend on current access, while the appearance of the falls varies with water flow.

Day 5

Gorgora at a quieter pace

Spend a less structured day around Gorgora. Village visits, walking or canoeing can be considered individually with local permission and suitable arrangements.

Gorgora

Day 6

Gondar's imperial sites

Reach Gondar for the Royal Enclosure and Fasilides Bath. The historical visit is a separate day before the mountain walking section, with current opening and entry arrangements still to confirm.

Day 7

Sankaber towards Gich

The first Simien walking stage begins around Sankaber and continues towards Gich through the escarpment landscape. The Jinbar Falls viewpoint is a named interest, not a guarantee of route access.

Day 10

To Axum through the gorge country

Day 18

Asheton Maryam and Hudad

Walk towards Hudad through the Asheton Maryam area. Agree the starting point and extent of the walk to suit the group and conditions.
