Day-by-day itinerary

The sequence as it ran in the past programme, kept for reference. It is not a current departure.

Day 1

Capital opening

The historical programme begins in Addis Ababa with time to orient after arrival. A gentle introduction and rest prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 2

Bahir Dar and festival context

Reach Bahir Dar for the Lake Tana setting associated with the historical Timkat programme. The past processions are part of this archived journey, not a confirmed future event.

Day 3

Day 4

Meket towards Mequat Mariam

The community walking section starts through Meket and Werkhaye towards Mequat Mariam. Hosting and trail access require current local agreements rather than assuming an old guesthouse arrangement remains available.

Day 5

Towards Wajela

The next stage walks through the plateau landscape towards Wajela. Confirm the route and hosting with the community, without treating domestic life or photography as included activities.

Mequat Mariam → Wajela

Day 6

Lalibela transition

Complete the first walking section, make the short approach to the road and continue to Lalibela. Confirm the pickup and onward transfer when arranging the journey.

Day 7

Bilbala Cherkos and Lalibela

The historical day includes Bilbala Cherkos and a saint's-day context before further Lalibela interests. Religious dates, entry rules and any event participation need current confirmation.

Day 8

Lalibela to Gondar

Continue from Lalibela towards Gondar. Morning worship is optional, depending on permission to attend and the travel connection agreed for the day.

Day 9

Gondar into the Simiens

Gondar's church and castle interests precede the mountain approach. The programme must be assessed against current access and available time before combining both sections in one day.

Day 10

Give the park corridor towards Chenek a full day. Choose viewpoints with current access guidance and leave time to observe the landscape and any wildlife encountered.

Day 13

Erar to Shimbrety

The trail follows the valley and a rock-tunnel area towards Shimbrety, with an unnamed church mentioned along the way. Present access and local permission are required before the walking stage can be operated.

Erar → Shimbrety

Day 14

Idega Arbi to Hawzien

The route reaches Idega Arbi before Hawzien and Gheralta. A market visit is date-dependent, and any further church choice should match the party's abilities and current permissions.

Day 15

Mekele and Addis Ababa

The historical itinerary ends through Mekele and Addis Ababa. Any newly arranged journey would need current flights and onward connections confirmed separately.
