Overview

Sixteen historical days join Wollo community trails and a Timket occasion with Lalibela, Gondar, the Simiens, Axum and Tigray.

Day-by-day itinerary

The sequence as it ran in the past programme, kept for reference. It is not a current departure.

Day 1

Addis Ababa arrival

The first day remains flexible around arrival in the capital. The archived programme establishes a starting city, not a currently available transfer or hotel package.

Day 2

Istayish towards Aina Amba

Connect through Lalibela and Istayish to begin the Wollo walk towards Aina Amba. Confirm the flight, trail access and locally hosted overnight before arranging the stage.

Day 3

Aina Amba festival context

Remain around Aina Amba for the historical Timket setting. This past occasion is archived; any future religious visit would depend on the calendar, invitation and permission.

Day 4

Waro Mikael towards Boya

Continue across the plateau through Waro Mikael towards Boya. Agree the paths, local stops and hosting arrangements before the walk.

Aina Amba → Waro Mikael → Boya

Day 5

Boya to Lalibela

The first community-trail section closes with the return to Lalibela and initial church interests. The exact trailhead and transfer plan are not supplied as confirmed services.

Day 6

Further Lalibela churches

The remaining church groups receive another day. Any highland monastery option needs separate access and walking-suitability review rather than being assumed included.

Lalibela

Day 7

Gondar introduction

Continue to Gondar, with Debre Berhan Selassie as an arrival interest. Confirm the air connection and time available for a permitted church visit.

Day 8

Royal Enclosure day

A separate day gives Gondar's Royal Enclosure and surrounding historical interests more time. The actual sequence should follow current opening arrangements and locally appropriate interpretation.

Day 9

Into the Simien landscape

Travel into the Simien area for mountain orientation. Confirm current access and the actual overnight accommodation when planning this stage.

Day 10

Buit Ras walking interests

The full mountain day offers Buit Ras, Sankaber and Jinbar Falls interests. Select a feasible route for the party and conditions rather than promising every option or a particular wildlife encounter.

Day 11

Towards Axum

Leave the mountains for Axum. Confirm the present road route and a realistic travel schedule before arranging the stage.

Day 12

Axum archaeology

A full day concentrates on the stelae, tombs and Maryam Tsion area. Religious traditions and legendary attributions should be distinguished from archaeological evidence during interpretation.

Day 13

Rahya towards Erar

Begin the Tigray community walk at Rahya and continue to Erar. Agree the trail access, guides and overnight hosting with local partners.

Day 14

Shimbrety trail day

The next walk reaches Shimbrety through the rock-tunnel and Mariam Buzzuhan area. Local permissions and conditions govern the actual route, without guaranteed access to a church or household.

Erar → Mariam Buzzuhan → Shimbrety

Day 15

Gheralta transition

Leave the community trails for Gheralta and further church interests. The chosen sites should reflect access demands and religious permissions rather than a generic all-churches promise.

Day 16

Mekele and the capital

The archived route closes through Mekele and Addis Ababa. Any contemporary journey would require its own confirmed dates and travel arrangements.
