Trekking in the Simien Mountains: Route Study

This extended Simien concept goes beyond the shorter escarpment walks. Sankaber, Gich and Chenek form the approach before the route reaches the Bwahit area, Ambiko and Ras Dashen. The remote section changes the support and pacing questions compared with a brief park visit.

Places and route components

  • Addis Ababa and the Simien approach
  • Sankaber to Gich
  • Gich to Chenek
  • Bwahit area and Ambiko
  • Ras Dashen and Menteber
  • Ambiko to Chenek
  • Return towards Addis Ababa

Schedule details still to resolve

The day after Menteber starts again at Ambiko, and the walk back between them is not described. Ask the operator to confirm the overnight sequence before treating this as a continuous trekking plan.

Developing this journey

Allow the mountain plan to reflect acclimatisation, walking experience and the support available. Ask how the remote camps connect and where the return transport meets the group. Read the shorter Simien routes as alternatives if your priority is the escarpment rather than an extended summit journey.
