Overview

A nine-day aerial concept links Gheralta and the Danakil with Axum, the Simiens, Gondar, Bahir Dar and Lalibela.

Day-by-day itinerary

A proposed sequence for discussion. Daily access, services and travel arrangements need confirmation.

Day 1

Addis Ababa beginning

Begin in Addis Ababa with time to orient in the city. Choose arrival activities and rest around the wider travel plan.

Day 2

Gheralta from above

Day 3

Danakil landscape excursion

Make a proposed Danakil excursion from the Gheralta base. The specific volcanic sites and any landings depend on specialist aviation permissions and current local conditions.

Day 4

Axum and the Simiens

Axum's historical sites break the journey towards the Simien Mountains. The combination is distinctive to this air-based concept and cannot be assumed feasible by road within the same day.

Day 6

Gondar and Bahir Dar

Combine Gondar's historical buildings with the onward stage to Bahir Dar. This is part of an aerial itinerary, with the day's movements dependent on confirmed aviation arrangements.

Day 7

Day 8

A second Lalibela day

The second church group receives its own day. Keep alternative highland visits optional until the specific access, walking effort and permission have been reviewed with the operator.
