Overview

Thirteen days connect Jinka and Turmi with Arba Minch, Hawassa, Bale and Langano.

Day-by-day itinerary

A proposed sequence for discussion. Daily access, services and travel arrangements need confirmation.

Day 1

Addis Ababa arrival

The first day stays in Addis Ababa. Museums and markets are possible introductory interests, with the actual programme shaped around arrival and rest before the longer southern journey.

Day 2

Jinka introduction

Travel to Jinka for an introduction to South Omo and its museum, with Ari community interests nearby. Any hosted visit should be agreed locally with the people involved.

Day 3

Mago to Turmi

The sequence visits the Mago area before continuing to Turmi through Key Afar. A Mursi visit requires community agreement, and market or ceremony timing cannot be guaranteed.

Hamar community members at Turmi in the Lower Omo Valley.

Day 4

Kolcho and Kangatan

Karo and Nyangatom visits around Kolcho and Kangatan form this local day. Confirm crossings, host permission and the purpose of each visit rather than treating communities as interchangeable sightseeing stops.

Turmi → Kolcho → Kangatan → Turmi

Hamar community members at Turmi in the Lower Omo Valley.

Day 5

Omerate and Dimeka

Combine an Omerate visit with Dimeka and Hamar interests. A market visit depends on the local calendar and arrangements agreed with the hosts.

Turmi → Omerate → Dimeka → Turmi

Hamar community members at Turmi in the Lower Omo Valley.

Day 6

Arbore and Konso

Continue towards Arba Minch through Arbore and Konso. Konso's settlement and terracing interests are distinct from the day's road journey, with permission and route feasibility still to confirm.

Day 7

Lake Chamo and Dorze

A lake outing and a Dorze visit share this day. Discuss suitable observation distance, household permissions and weaving interests in advance rather than assuming a fixed wildlife or cultural demonstration.

Day 8

Senkele to Hawassa

Continue to Hawassa, with Senkele as a possible natural-history stop along the way. Confirm sanctuary access before including the visit and allow wildlife observation to follow conditions on the day.

Arba Minch → Senkele Game Sanctuary → Hawassa

Sunset on Lake Hawassa.

Day 9

Into the Bale highlands

Hawassa's fish market precedes the journey into Bale through Dinsho. The day introduces the park and forest landscape without promising a particular hike or guide service as already arranged.

Hawassa → Dinsho → Bale Mountains National Park

Sunset on Lake Hawassa.

Day 10

Bale's contrasting habitats

The full Bale day brings Harenna Forest and the Sanetti Plateau together. Habitat observation is the focus, with wildlife encounters uncertain and the programme adapted to current park conditions.

Day 11

Down to Langano

Leave the highlands for Lake Langano and time beside the water. Confirm the accommodation and consider any water-based recreation separately with current local guidance.

Day 12

Abijatta–Shalla area

A second lake-country day reaches the Abijatta–Shalla area. The lakes and birdlife provide the focus, with the chosen viewpoints depending on current access and conditions.

Day 13

Return to Addis Ababa

Complete the journey in Addis Ababa. Confirm the return connection and leave appropriate time before any onward flight.
