Day 1
Capital orientation
Spend the first day in Addis Ababa, with an introduction to the city shaped around arrival and rest. Agree the visits and overnight when planning the trip.
Addis Ababa
This extended route gives the Rift lakes, Dorze, Omo communities, Bale, Awash and Harar their own stages, allowing unhurried time in the south and east.
This outline starts and finishes in Addis Ababa over 23 days. Overnight locations, daily travel times and any walking demands are not yet confirmed; the day-by-day itinerary below shows the proposed sequence.
A proposed sequence for discussion. Daily access, services and travel arrangements need confirmation.
Day 1
Spend the first day in Addis Ababa, with an introduction to the city shaped around arrival and rest. Agree the visits and overnight when planning the trip.
Addis Ababa
Day 2
Travel towards Langano through the Ziway and Abijatta–Shalla lake region. The sequence establishes the Rift Valley section, while exact visits and any water activity require current approval.
Addis Ababa → Lake Ziway → Abijatta-Shalla National Park → Lake Langano
Day 3
Choose Lephis Forest or Senkele on the approach to Dorze. These are alternatives for the day, with the final choice depending on interests and current access.
Lake Langano → Lephis Forest → Dorze
Day 4
Spend the day on Dorze's weaving, buildings and market interests. Hosting, demonstrations and photography should be agreed with local people rather than treated as automatic visitor entitlements.
Dorze
Day 5
Continue to Arba Minch, with a Lake Chamo outing and proposed Nech Sar walk. Confirm park access and the feasible activities before deciding on the combination.
Dorze → Arba Minch → Lake Chamo → Nech Sar National Park
Day 6
Continue to Konso for its settlement landscape and museum interests. Any visit to a home or local leader depends on an invitation and permission.
Arba Minch → Konso
Day 7
Jinka follows Konso, with Key Afar named on the way. Market activity depends on the actual date; the route does not turn a market into a permanent scheduled event.
Konso → Key Afar → Jinka
Day 8
This day combines the Mago area with Mursi and Ari community interests. Each visit requires separate local agreement and respectful choices about photography and personal interaction.
Jinka → Mago National Park → Jinka
Day 9
Visit Jinka Museum before continuing through Dimeka towards Turmi. Any ceremony is a community-led occasion whose timing and visitor access need to be agreed locally.
Jinka → Dimeka → Turmi
Day 10
Visit the Kolcho area for Karo interests, followed by Hamar interests around Turmi. Give each encounter its own local context and let the hosts decide what they wish to share.
Turmi → Kolcho → Turmi
Day 11
A Dassanech visit around Omerate precedes further Turmi interests. Crossing arrangements, market timing and visitor permission need present-day verification before the day is confirmed.
Turmi → Omerate → Turmi
Day 12
After walking interests around Turmi, continue through Arbore towards Yabello. Confirm the feasible route and any local visits for the conditions at the time.
Turmi → Arbore → Yabello
Day 13
Borana community interests, a proposed singing-well visit and El Sod crater lake form the day's themes. Agree invitations and appropriate access to these working and cultural places with local hosts.
Yabello → El Sod → Yabello
Day 14
The route leaves Yabello for Yirgalem and gives the arrival period to rest. It does not establish a particular lodge booking, meal arrangement or coffee-estate access.
Yabello → Yirgalem
Day 15
The Yirgalem day focuses on Sidama community and coffee-growing interests. Agree the hosts and scope of the visit; cultivation and household activities are not demonstrations guaranteed on demand.
Yirgalem
Day 16
Visit Hawassa's fish-market area before approaching Bale through Dinsho to Goba. Choose any arrival walk around the time available after the journey.
Yirgalem → Hawassa → Dinsho → Goba
Day 17
Harenna Forest and Sanetti Plateau form the full Bale day. These habitats are the focus, with sightings uncertain and routes adjusted to current park conditions and the visitors' walking ability.
Goba → Harenna Forest → Sanetti Plateau
Day 18
Travel northeast from Goba to Awash. Allow the day for the journey and arrival, with the route and schedule confirmed locally.
Goba → Awash National Park
Day 19
Give Awash National Park a dedicated day. Select the visits with current park guidance and allow time for patient wildlife observation.
Awash National Park
Day 20
Continue from Awash towards Harar, beginning a three-day section in the eastern city. Confirm the current route and travel schedule before fixing arrival visits.
Awash National Park → Harar
Day 21
The excursion from Harar names Babile, the Valley of Marvels and a camel-market interest. Market dates and local access need confirmation; animals and trading activity are not guaranteed visitor displays.
Harar → Babile → Valley of Marvels → Harar
Day 22
Spend the day exploring Harar's old city. Any evening wildlife-related outing is separate and needs an appropriate local arrangement.
Harar
Day 23
Return through Dire Dawa to Addis Ababa, with a possible market visit along the way. Confirm its timing and the actual return connection before making onward plans.
Harar → Dire Dawa → Addis Ababa
