Ethiopia’s festival calendar brings together worship, procession, family life and public celebration. Choosing an event means considering its meaning and location as well as the date on a calendar.

A running event has different logistics

The Great Ethiopian Run adds a sporting focus to Addis Ababa. Treat registration, start location, road closures and the published event date as organiser-controlled details. If joining a race, arrange the preceding and following travel days around the effort you expect to make; spectators should also plan a meeting point and return journey.

Different occasions, different experiences

Genna is associated with Christmas, Timkat with the baptism of Christ, Enkutatash with New Year and Meskel with the Finding of the True Cross. Their forms and significance differ.
